ACC WORLD MISSIONS

ACC WORLD MISSIONS: DIRECTION FOR THE FUTURE

After ten years at the helm of ACC World Missions, Jack Hanes stood down from the role of President, and Alun Davies has been appointed as the President of ACC World Missions.

Since the beginning of the year, ACC World Missions underwent a restructure with Gavin Davies managing the World Missions department and Ben Shue appointed to manage World Relief.

Following the National Conference, consultation was held with missionaries and missions leaders regarding vision and direction for the future. In the upcoming months, meetings will be held in the regions with further suggestions and strategy for the future.

CONSTITUTION

CONSTITUTION CHANGES ACCEPTED AT CONFERENCE

The Conference delegates voted overwhelmingly in favour of accepting the changes to the United Constitution.

"A great deal of time, in the last two years, has been spent working on the new Constitution," said National Secretary Keith Ainge. "I would like to thank all who contributed to its development and all who attended our consultations around the country."

A copy of the new Constitution is available to download.

ENCOUNTER

Geoff Hovey of Crossways Family Church, Tenterfield, NSW, shared the following encounter at National Conference:

"The recent National Conference had so many highlights, but for us the best happened outside the hall on Wednesday morning. As we walked up the ramp toward the Entertainment Centre, we found ourselves walking beside a young mother with her son dancing happily in front.
We passed comment about how happy he was, but mum assured us it wasn’t like this the previous day. When she went to pick him up from the kid’s program, she had found him in tears.
“What’s wrong? Are you hurt? Did someone do something?…” the usual concerned parental queries flowed.
But with a strong, slightly scornful but tearful voice, he answered: “I’ve come all the way from Darwin to Worship Jesus... and all they want to do is entertain us!”
And we worry about our future generations — it truly was a wonderful conference."

INDIGENOUS INITIATVE

NATIONAL INDIGENOUS INITIATIVE: HEALING & RECONCILIATION

Newly elected ACC President, Wayne Alcorn, addressed the conference on the Church's response to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and how we can help bring healing to the nation.

"The Church that I see is rising up to be God's healing agent on the earth," said Wayne. "All of us own a responsibility to reach Aussies for Jesus, and we need to take responsibility for our own people. We can ignore stats but we cannot ignore people"

He emphasised two thoughts - to firstly be AWARE of the issues, and secondly to ENGAGE.

"The problem has been with us over 200 years," Wayne declared. "It's time we began to bridge the gap."

Anyone interested in becoming involved with the ministry to Indigenous Australians was invited to a morning tea, and for further information, contact Gary Rucci:
