Dear leaders,
Over the past few weeks, I have seen churches across our nation rise up with a renewed prayer focus. God’s promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14 is that as we pray, He will hear and heal. Let’s believe for great days ahead as we move into the second half of 2010. There is so much to be grateful for and so much more to achieve.
Recently, we held our second National Executive meeting, this year, in Sydney. Although we are usually in constant contact, it’s good to be able to get together in the same place for a few days and focus on some of the key issues and exciting initiatives before us as a movement.

Growing stronger churches
continues to be at the heart of our vision and there is a definite momentum among the leadership team. Each National Executive member has valuable leadership experience and gifts that contribute towards the strength of our fellowship. In the upcoming months, new resources relating to Australian Christian Care and Church Life will be made available to equip you to be more effective in community care and church plants.

Under the leadership of Pastor Alun Davies, the new structure of our Missions and Relief programs as ACC International have the potential to make a tremendous impact globally. I had the honour of attending the official opening of ACC International’s National Operations Centre in Melbourne on Friday, 18th June. The magnificent facilities give ACC International an excellent operations base to reach the world.

On July 1st, we launched an incredibly exciting initiative by ACC International called ‘One Day to Change the World’. This is a fantastic opportunity for our congregations to practically bless the poor and needy, through the simple donation of one day’s wage. Read the interview with Pastor Alun Davies in this issue to discover more about it and each ACC Senior Pastor/church should have received a ‘One Day’ pack in the mail. If not, please contact the ACC International office for your copy.

Thank you to all the ACC churches who participated in the Australian Christian Lobby’s ‘Make It Count’ event on 21st June. It represented to Australian politicians the importance of the Christian vote. Having attended the event in Canberra with numerous other church leaders, I feel strongly that we need to be vigilant in praying for the leadership and future of our nation. There are many issues at stake that we should never take for granted and I believe our voice as the Church needs to be heard clearly.

In the upcoming months I am hoping to get to as many State Conferences as I can. State Presidents and their teams are doing an excellent job, and every year, the State Conferences impart fresh vision and purpose into our pastors. I encourage you to make every effort to be there.

Registrations for the 2011 National Conference on the Gold Coast continue to grow, following the announcement that our guest speakers are renowned evangelist Reinhard Bonnke and Steve Murrell. I encourage you to plan ahead and make the most of the Early Bird rates. Register online at www.acc.org.au

You are appreciated.
Warm regards,
WAYNE ALCORN
ACC NATIONAL PRESIDENT

5 quick leadership lessons

5 THINGS I’VE LEARNED…
by Wayne Alcorn

1. IT’S OK TO BE DIFFERENT
Our maturity is demonstrated by our ability to celebrate diversity. Psalm 139:14-16 tells us how unique we each are so we shouldn’t apologise for our differences. However, we should not make our weakness our virtues or surround ourselves with clones.

2. MUCH OF OUR BIAS IS MORE CULTURAL THAN BIBLICAL
As we grow as leaders, instead of reacting, we need to learn, like the men of Berea, to examine issues in the light of scripture, with truth and grace.

3. YOU CAN’T ALWAYS PREDICT A WINNER
Love people unconditionally. Some people will surprise you, while sadly others will disappoint you but keep investing in them and watch miracles unfold.

4. THROWN MUD IS LOST GROUND
Criticism is like a cancer so avoid mud-slinging. Choose, instead, to elevate others. In doing so, it elevates you. Ed Cole once said, “Sometimes silence is golden, other times it’s simply yellow.” Our challenge is to know when to hold our tongue (discretion) and when to speak (courage).

5. YOUR INNER WORLD IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN OUR EXTERNAL WORLD
Performance, activity, titles and appearance are of little consequence in
comparison to the state of our heart and mind. (Proverbs 4:23; Romans 12:1-3)
